Lobated on the country’s central coast in Thua Thien Hue province. The beauty of the area led it to be chosen by the kings of the Nguyen dynasty for their capital. Hue also features a unique cuisine – dishes associated with the imperial court. The city is noted for both its beautiful embroidery and for its torrential rains.

3.6.1. Highlights

ROYAL TOMBS
Often built when the ruling king was still alive, they’re more like palaces than simple memorials. Hue has eight notable royal tombs. The most outstanding are Gia Long Tomb at the top of Thien Tho hill, Minh Mang Tomb, covering an area of 18ha in Huong Tra district, Tu Duc Tomb at Duong Xuan Thuong commune, and Khai Dinh Tomb on Chau E mountain.
ANCIENT CITADEL
The first king of the Nguyen Dynasty, Gia Long, began construction of the complex in 1805. The present citadel, including the Forbidden City, is on the banks of the Perfume river.
